A permaculture mound marks the boundary between the courtyard and the road. Small fruit trees and vegetables have been planted for the cooking pot when school begins again...
Through successive layers, the permaculture mound produces a rich environment, particularly favourable to the soil’s micro-fauna. It increases the cul- tivable area, helps create micro-climates, fosters better water management by the plants and makes the work easier, thanks to its height.
By involving schoolchildren in planting the small trees, SPADOM has raised their awareness to the issue of urban agriculture and permaculture, and teamed up with a whole bunch of budding gardeners who will look after what they helped plant!
