Where does wood go when it dies? In the city, trees rarely reach their potential old age. They are usually felled before they do, often for safety reasons. Quickly chopped up, they are then evacuated from the urban space.

Vanitas erects a sort of mausoleum for dead wood. Stored in the middle, the wood is left to its natural nutrient cycle. Mushrooms swarming with processions of beetles share in the ritual, accelerating the decomposition of the wood.
